The short version
1. Who we are
SolarWatt UK ("we", "us", "our") operates the website at uksolarcalc.co.uk. We are the data controller for the personal data we collect through this site.
If you have any question about this policy or your data, email [email protected].
2. What data we collect
2.1 Calculator inputs — not collected
All five calculators (savings, panel count, cost, ROI, battery) run as client-side JavaScript. The values you enter (region, bill, system size, tariff) are processed by your browser only and are never sent to our servers. We have no access to these inputs and do not store them.
2.2 Lead form data — when you request quotes
If you use a "Get quotes" or similar call-to-action, you may be asked to submit:
- Name
- Email address
- Phone number
- Property postcode (to match you with local MCS-certified installers)
- System details you've calculated (system size, battery preference)
This data is collected so we can pass your enquiry to one or more installers in our network. We do not store payment data — we never see your card details.
2.3 Analytics and advertising data
We use Google Analytics and Google AdSense, which set cookies on your device. These collect aggregated, pseudonymous data such as pages visited, referral source, approximate region, and device type. Full details are in our cookie policy.
3. Lawful basis for processing (UK GDPR Article 6)
| Data | Lawful basis | Recital reference |
|---|---|---|
| Lead form (name, email, phone, postcode) | Consent (6(1)(a)) — you actively submit the form, and pre-contractual steps necessary to provide the quote service you requested (6(1)(b)) | Your quote request |
| Passing lead data to installers | Consent (6(1)(a)) — you agree at the point of submission that your details may be shared with up to 3 installers | Quote delivery |
| Google Analytics cookies | Consent (6(1)(a)) — obtained via the cookie banner | Site improvement |
| Google AdSense cookies | Consent (6(1)(a)) — obtained via the cookie banner | Ad personalisation (opt-in) |
| Server access logs | Legitimate interests (6(1)(f)) — security and abuse prevention | Site security |
4. How we use your data
- To pass your quote request to up to three MCS-certified installer partners so they can contact you.
- To respond to emails you send us (e.g. support, data subject requests).
- To maintain and improve the website using aggregated analytics.
- To display advertising (where you have consented to personalised ads).
- To detect fraud, abuse, or security threats.
We do not use your personal data to make solely automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.
5. Who we share your data with
5.1 Installer partners
When you submit a lead form, your contact details are passed to up to three MCS-certified installers in your region. Each installer is an independent data controller for the data once they receive it. We do not control how they use it — please review their privacy policies.
5.2 Service providers
- Google LLC — Google Analytics (anonymous traffic data) and Google AdSense (advertising). See Google's privacy policy.
- Hosting provider — for serving the website and storing server access logs.
- Email provider — for replying to your enquiries.
5.3 Legal disclosure
We may disclose data where required by law, court order, or to protect our rights, property, or safety.
We do not sell your personal data.
6. International transfers
Some service providers (notably Google) may process data outside the UK. Where this happens, transfers are protected by UK International Data Transfer Addenda, UK Standard Contractual Clauses, or the UK-US Data Bridge, in line with UK GDPR Chapter V.
7. Data retention
| Data type | Retention period |
|---|---|
| Lead form submissions | 12 months from submission, then deleted from our systems. Installers you were matched with retain their own copies subject to their policies. |
| Email correspondence | 24 months, then deleted. |
| Google Analytics cookies | Maximum 14 months (configured in GA4). See cookie policy. |
| AdSense cookies | Up to 13 months (Google's default). See cookie policy. |
| Server access logs | 30 days. |
If you ask us to delete your data earlier, we will do so within 30 days.
8. Your UK GDPR rights
Under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, you have the right to:
- Be informed (this policy)
- Access your personal data
- Rectify inaccurate data
- Erase your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Restrict processing
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing
- Data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We respond within one month.
