1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a website. Cookies allow the site to remember your actions and preferences over time. Under the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), we must tell you about the cookies we use and, with limited exceptions, obtain your consent before setting non-essential ones.
2. Types of cookies we use
| Category | Purpose | Consent required? |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | None currently set. | — |
| Analytics | No cookie is stored in your browser: Cloudflare Web Analytics uses no cookies or client-side state (Cloudflare, verified 14 September 2026). | No — no consentable cookie is set. |
| Advertising | None — advertising is not yet active on this site. | Not applicable today |
| Functional | None currently used. | — |
3. Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics (Cloudflare, Inc.) to understand how the site is used in aggregate. Cloudflare states verbatim: “Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use any client-side state, such as cookies or localStorage, to collect usage metrics. We also don’t ‘fingerprint’ individuals via their IP address, User Agent string, or any other data for the purpose of displaying analytics.” (Source: Cloudflare, “Web Analytics — Privacy first”, verified 14 September 2026.)
Because this site is proxied through Cloudflare, Cloudflare also processes standard request metadata — IP address, user agent, requested URL and response status — at its edge for delivery, security and aggregate reporting. Our lawful basis for that processing is legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)) in keeping this site available and secure.
We do not use Google Analytics (GA4), Google Tag Manager, or any other analytics product, and no analytics cookies are set. There is therefore no analytics cookie retention period to state.
4. Advertising cookies — not yet active
No advertising is displayed on this site today and no advertising cookies are set. We have verified the site with Google AdSense (the account meta tag is present) but ads are not served.
Before advertising is enabled we will: (1) deploy a Google-certified consent management platform (CMP), so that consent is collected in the UK and EEA as AdSense requires; (2) document the advertising cookie names, purposes and retention periods (for example __gads, __gpi, IDE, NID) on this page; and (3) state the effective date here. Consent will be requested before any non-essential cookie is set.
You can review and change your Google ad settings at adssettings.google.com and read Google's advertising privacy page.
5. Strictly necessary cookies
We currently set no first-party cookies. There is nothing to remember, because the processing we actually carry out requires no consent. If we later add a consent mechanism, the cookie that stores your consent choice will be listed here with its purpose and retention period.
6. Third-party cookies and the IAB TCF
Not applicable today. This site currently sets no third-party cookies and we do not participate in the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework. If advertising using the TCF is enabled in future, we will document the vendor list and how consent signals are handled here before launch.
7. How to control and delete cookies
You have several options:
- Nothing to opt out of today — we set no non-essential cookies, so there is no preference to manage. If advertising launches, a "Cookie preferences" link will be added to the footer.
- Browser settings — all major browsers let you view, block, or delete cookies. See:
- Google Ads Settings — adssettings.google.com to opt out of personalised advertising across Google services.
- Network Advertising Initiative — optout.networkadvertising.org for cross-industry opt-out.
Blocking all cookies may affect site functionality (e.g. cookie consent will not be remembered).
8. Cookies we do not use
- We do not set cookies that read your calculator inputs — those values stay in your browser.
- We do not use Facebook Pixel, LinkedIn Insight, or other social-media tracking pixels.
- We do not use Hotjar, FullStory, or session-replay tools.
- We do not use cookies for cross-site tracking at all — this site sets no third-party cookies.
9. Updates to this policy
If we add, remove, or change any cookie, we will update this page and the "last updated" date. If a change introduces consentable cookies, we will collect fresh consent through the consent platform before those cookies are set.
